Review: 'Everything Or Nothing' (2012) Dir. Stevan Riley

This loving and well created documentary focuses largely on three men with a shared dream; James Bond film producers Albert R. Broccoli, Harry Saltzman and author Ian Fleming.

It is the thrilling and inspiring narrative behind the longest running film franchise in cinema history which began way before 'Dr.No' in 1962.

With unprecedented access both to the key players involved and to EON Productions extensive archive, this is the first time the inside story of the franchise has ever been told on screen in this way. Director Stevan Riley follows a story that begins with a ground-breaking spy thriller and continues six Bonds and five decades later.

Interviews with all of the actors who have played James Bond take us from the early 1940s with the introduction of Ian Fleming and his exploits to help shape the character of James Bond, straight through to 2012 and the 23rd 007 film 'Skyfall'. It's passionate and engaging and a brilliant love-letter to the series, but also just what went on behind the scenes of the cast and crew in making these films. It's also brilliantly narrated by clips from the Bond films to enhance the real-life events that happened during the timeline.

It's not an extended behind-the-scenes for each individual film, but an exploration of what went on during the production of the films, and what shaped those involved; emotions, betrayals, relationships and redemptions. You will get to know how each actor coped with the role of James Bond, and what led to them parting ways from the franchise, told by those who were there at the time working on the films.

It certainly goes beyond what the casual Bond fan would expect from a celebration of 50 years of films; it's just a shame we don't get more in a longer run-time!

Fantastic viewing with clear passion for the 007 books and films, all oozing from Riley's crisp and firm direction.
