The Senior Content and Asset Specialist at Lucasfilm Ltd, Phil Szostak, brings together a collection of concept art charting the return to a galaxy far, far away with 'Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens'.
Phil also brings together the ideas that did and didn't make it to screen.
There is nothing as exciting for fans of any film to see how the creative art department, production team, cast and director worked together to flesh out ideas and dreams into amazing works of art. Everything is charted here, including the visualisation of characters, ships, planets and weapons. There are ideas that didn't make it to the final cut, and some that were drastically re-worked before approval.
The look and style of the late artist Ralph McQuarrie is continued by the talented team at LucasFilm, continuing to produce art that is as powerful as the film itself.
It's a wonderful book to bring so much of the otherwise lost art to millions, and you really see the amount of skill from those artists who are often forgotten. The ones who bring words on paper and ideas in heads to life for all to see and help make a film before the film has even begun shooting.
With notes on every image explaining who created it, what you see and how it lent itself to the final film, there is little here not to please fans of Star Wars and especially 'The Force Awakens' as a journal of behind the scenes art.
If only every Star Wars film could have a book as full of art as beautiful as this, charting the journey from concept to cinema screen (and those moments we didn't see).
'The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is an Abrams publication
