The Senior Content and Asset Specialist at Lucasfilm Ltd, Phil Szostak, brings together a final collection of concept art for the closing entry of the 'Skywalker Saga' in 'Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker'.
The sequel to 2017s 'The Last Jedi' not only had to deliver as a sequel, but also as the closing to a nine part story that spanned three generations and has been with audiences for over 40 years. With so many ideas and concepts, this book is bitter-sweet in showing what brave risks and choices weren't taken.
Iconography from all previous 8 episodes bleed into the visions of the crew here, trying to link faces and places into one final journey. But it also explores the new worlds, characters, weapons and costumes that make the Star Wars saga one of the most vibrant and visual of sci-fi films.
There is so much on show here that it's hard not to be impressed by the art alone, but with much not developed on screen, you can be forgiven for being frustrated at the teases.
The third of a trilogy in books charting the ideas of the new sequel trilogy, this yet again is packed full to the brim with glossy images and notes, making it a true investment for fans of the franchise and the films. This is real value for money, and once again sheds light on the artists who are often overlooked by many.
With a film delivering less-than-expected outcomes, the art at least teases us with what could have, and sometimes should have, come to life.
'The Art of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker' is a Harry N. Abrams publication
